  • Gandhinagar district is an important district in North Gujarat region and administrative city of the Gujarat state.
  • The total geographical area of the district is about 2.15 lakhs hectares.
  • For administrative convenience, the district has been divided into 4 talukas and 298 gram panchayats with 303 villages.
  • Agriculture is the main source of livelihood for the rural people of district.
  • The district lies between 23.01° to 23.56° N latitude and 72.33° to 73.73° E longitudes situated at 81 m above sea level.

CLIMATE AND RAINFALL

  • The district has semi-arid climate with three distinguished seasons i.e. kharif (June to September), Rabi (October to January) and summer (February to May).
  • The district receives the rainfall through South-West monsoon which normally starts from middle of June.
  • July and August are the major months of rainfall.
  • The average rainfall is 665mm however; scanty and uneven rainfall pattern is common.
  • The temperature varies from 7°C to 45°C. The December and January are the coldest months while April and May are the hottest months of the year.
  • The humidity varies from 34 to 79 % .The summer is very hot wherein temperature ranges from 40° to 46°C for the couple of days.
