Gandhinagar district is an important district in North Gujarat region and administrative city of the Gujarat state.
The total geographical area of the district is about 2.15 lakhs hectares.
For administrative convenience, the district has been divided into 4 talukas and 298 gram panchayats with 303 villages.
Agriculture is the main source of livelihood for the rural people of district.
The district lies between 23.01° to 23.56° N latitude and 72.33° to 73.73° E longitudes situated at 81 m above sea level.
CLIMATE AND RAINFALL
The district has semi-arid climate with three distinguished seasons i.e. kharif (June to September), Rabi (October to January) and summer (February to May).
The district receives the rainfall through South-West monsoon which normally starts from middle of June.
July and August are the major months of rainfall.
The average rainfall is 665mm however; scanty and uneven rainfall pattern is common.
The temperature varies from 7°C to 45°C. The December and January are the coldest months while April and May are the hottest months of the year.
The humidity varies from 34 to 79 % .The summer is very hot wherein temperature ranges from 40° to 46°C for the couple of days.
